Welcome at the website of the Waldur Symposium 2007!
Every year study association Waldur organises a symposium on the field of electrical energy technology. This year’s symposium will be about ‘High Temperature Superconducting Cables ’.
High temperature superconducting cables; the main theme of an international symposium organized on November 27 by the Electrical Engineering Study Association “Waldur” in close collaboration with the CIGRE National Committee for Insulated cables.
This symposium will cover the invention of superconductivity about 100 years ago, the physical opportunities and limitations, the cooling aspects and the main applications in power transmission cables.
Several pilots are going on worldwide. The applications seem to be closer than ever before. Although there are still some technology related factors to address, there does not seem to be any principal problem in applying HTSC cable in transmission systems.
Closing the circle from invention to application in the same country, NUON is preparing the first application in the Netherlands.
Kamerlingh Onnes would have been proud, and being asked for advice he would certainly have said: “keep it cool”.
